Dover Center and Lorain in North Olmsted - 10/08/09

Yesterday, I went to the intersection of Dover Center and Lorain in North Olmsted. I stayed for a little over an hour, when rain started to move in. It was a quiet day and I handed out 4 or 5 gospel tracts. I also added the web address to my blog at the bottom of my cross, hoping people would check it out and see the image that says, "I have seen the cross. What does it mean?" So far, I haven't seen any new local traffic yet, but it was only the first day with the new addition to the cross.

  1. Mark, I pray God will be glorified through your efforts! I wanted to just drop you a line of encouragement, and say "don't quit" because you don't know how God will use you today. Also brother I wanted to ask, what's the point when you go out? simply to display the cross? or to start conversations? I see both you and Tony at busy intersections but not a lot of conversations (from what I see, I could be wrong) So is the purpose to simply display the cross and give folks something to think about it, or to start a conversation?

  2. I will occasionally have conversations with people that are walking by if they are open to talking. I actually had a girl stop one time while driving by and asked what the cross meant. I was engaged in a discussion with a Catholic at the moment, and not wanting her to get her theology wrong, I gave her a gospel tract and told her to read it and check out my church's website (printed on the tract). I have also had some people stop by to offer me encouragement, and I have been proselytized four times- twice by the Church of Christ and twice by Jehovah's Witnesses. I get the occasionally heckling of people driving by, and I did have a group of high school students come by and one of them in the group tried to heckle me, but I am glad they came, because it appeared I got another girl in their group to really think about things.

I have a few things I am trying to accomplish with the cross (and this blog). First, I would like to get people to think about their salvation and eternity. Second, I'd like to get people used to seeing me with the cross, so if they happen to see me out in public somewhere (say shopping, at the rec center, etc.), they might ask, "Hey, aren't you the guy with the cross?" and I can use that as a springboard to talk about the gospel. Third, I am hoping people might go home and search on the Internet by doing a search like "Westlake Cross Guy" and find this blog, see the image/text that says "I have seen the cross. What does it mean?" and find out how to be saved. I also added my blog address to the bottom of the cross (I don't have a picture yet of it- I knew the rain was moving in yesterday and I didn't want to waste any time taking a picture) and I am hoping people will check it out and see that image and find out how to be saved. Also, I think I am pretty well known by the high school kids in the area and I hope to go to a game or two of local high schools. Having already been somewhat being known, I am hoping to use it as a springboard. Also, it wouldn't hurt if I was at a game and drew a crowd from being heckled and was able to preach the gospel. You just never know how God will use this!

  3. Mark 1:15 is also a powerful verse: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." It tells someone exactly what they need to do- repent and believe. I had someone stop by and tell me that he had looked up the verse and that the time is fulfilled.

  4. Thanks Mark, I have a cross as well, but I've only been out once with it. Mainly because I was waiting for an event that would draw some folks out who would then see the cross and hopefully talk to me about it. We do have an event comng up where I am hoping to "Display the Cross" as well as Open-air. I am going to have to get out with it more, however with fall and winter here and coming, I dont know when that will be. Christmas parades would be a good one.
